Now

This page is where I disclose a little bit about what I’m reading, researching on, or obsessed with in different aspects of life (credit to Derek Sivers who suggested in his Tim Ferriss Show interview that every personal website should have a “Now” page)

Reading: Karl Terzaghi: the Engineer as Artist by Richard Goodman. It’s a very underrated biography of an engineer/scientist.

Fitness: mobility and injury prevention. Just read Becoming a Supple Leopard by Mobility WOD’s Kelly Starrett.

Engineering: reading Design and Specification of Power Distribution and Protection Systems in Buildings by Tan Yan Choon

Role model: John Danaher, a New York-based Jiu Jitsu coach who works with world champions and young rising stars like GSP, Garry Tonon, Eddie Cummings, and Gordon Ryan. He has a Ph.D in philosophy and I guess that’s one of the reasons for the difference in his approach and writing as compared to the other high-level practicioners. His Instagram account is full of wisdom. You don’t have to practice martial arts to get something out of his wise captions.

Music: revisiting ABBA, trying to figure out why their songs are so catchy. And so are System of A Down’s songs, albeit in an entirely different style.

General: trying to understand acts of violence in historical context

Random thought: I should read the biographies of scientists whose surnames are made into units like Gauss, Volta, Coulomb, Ampere.
